Vishal Mega Mart guard memes: the real guards saw them too.

In May 2025, memes turned a Vishal Mega Mart security job into an imagined elite career. Reports from actual guards add something the fictional rank lists could not.

Inside this case

Sunil Kumar’s neighbours had started asking about his job. A Vishal Mega Mart security guard in Dwarka, he told ThePrint in May 2025 (opens in a new tab) that the attention and the reels made him laugh.

Online, the role was being treated like the destination of an exceptionally competitive career. People joked about preparation, selection and proudly announced results. Familiar celebrities appeared in imagined guard uniforms.

There was an ordinary job at the centre of all that invention, with actual people coming to work and seeing what the internet had made of it.

The actual shop behind the imaginary rank lists. The storefront image credited to @PremPandey1011 in NDTV’s May 2025 coverage gives the joke a physical address without turning its recruitment claims into facts.

The coaching-centre version was part of the joke

NDTV’s 19 May coverage (opens in a new tab) collected examples involving rigorous preparation, fake coaching centres and comparisons with UPSC and IIT-JEE. A retail security role was being given the elaborate ceremony of an elite examination.

The recruitment details circulating alongside the jokes need more care. NDTV relied on social posts for parts of that account. ThePrint reported trying to obtain an official explanation, without securing confirmation of the supposed drive. A verified first creator and the precise recruitment origin remain unresolved here.

That means a viral syllabus, applicant total or salary claim shouldn’t be quietly promoted into an employment fact. A confident-looking announcement could itself be something people were passing around as part of the meme.

You can understand the joke without believing its paperwork. The exaggerated preparation and imaginary result are the performance.

The familiar part was the pressure around being selected

The fake coaching centres borrowed a familiar promise: prepare hard enough and you might be selected. An audience used to hearing about exams and attempts could recognise the pressure being exaggerated, even when the imagined destination had changed.

There is more than one way to use that contrast. A post can make fun of the intensity of selection culture. It can also imply that a guard’s work is beneath the people joking about it. Similar uniforms and captions don’t guarantee the same target.

The people doing the job had responses of their own. Kumar enjoyed the attention. Another guard interviewed by ThePrint, Dilip Kumar, wasn’t especially interested in the meme: his work supported his family. Those two accounts are enough to complicate a claim that the guards must all have felt either flattered or insulted.

A search trend doesn’t replace a working day

Google’s 2025 Indian search review (opens in a new tab) included the security-guard meme. The topic had become something people actively looked up, not just a collection of posts noticed by a single reporter.

ThePrint’s conversations are the more useful detail to keep beside the fictional rank lists. One worker had acquired something new to laugh about with people who knew him. Another was getting on with the job that paid for his household.

The memes could offer the role a much grander title for a week. They didn’t change what either man had come to the store to do.
